Claudio Bianchi has lived alone for many years on a hillside in Southern Italy's scenic Calabria. Set in his ways and suspicious of outsiders, Claudio has always resisted change, preferring farming and writing poetry. But one chilly morning, as though from a dream, an impossible visitor appears at the farm. When Claudio comes to her aid, an act of kindness throws his world into chaos. Suddenly he must stave off inquisitive onlookers, invasive media, and even more sinister influences.

Lyrical, gripping, and wise, In Calabria confirms Peter S. Beagle's continuing legacy as one of fantasy's most legendary authors.

The narration is perfect, and though I had to adjust the speed of reading, it didn’t lose the easy pace of a story that’s a break from …all of the disappointments people less brave and selfless.

Simple beautiful and uncomplicated

This was purchased on a fluke and aside from a small foul language outburst, I enjoyed it.

There's no respect in which this wasn't absolutely wonderful.

Peter S. Beagle's writing is as smooth as silk and as effortlessly vivid as can be.

Bronson Pinchot's sandy-textured baritone brought the whole thing to life. When a woman was speaking, he never squawked her in that forced attempt to sound feminine, he just spoke in the rhythm and intonation that that character would use. It was like, "And that's Giovanna speaking", not "OK, high-pitched voice there, must be a female!"

Smooth, beautiful, technically well-managed, and an absolute joy to experience.

Exquisite magical-realist storytelling

I love that this book brought me back to Sicilia. The way people interact with others is so different than the states. It is a comforting read. A great story of a grumpy man who finds magic, love, and something to stand for without the violence of the mafia. I enjoyed this so much!

A quaint visit to Sicilia!

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book or not. And I don't usually go for shorter stories, but this book is different. I loved it! It grabbed my attention, my emotions, and drug me into the story. Before I knew it, I wasn't accomplishing much around the house anymore while listening because I was so engrossed in it.

loved it!!
