In the heart of Sin City, two men on opposite sides of the law collide in a dangerous game of power, passion, and betrayal.

Isaac Thoreau, the son of a notorious crime boss, has spent nine years behind bars for his father's murder. Driven, cunning, and unfeeling, he's now back to claim what's rightfully his. But when an enigmatic security guard named Hawk is hired to work at his nightclub, Isaac finds himself distracted…and inexplicably drawn to Hawk, despite his best efforts to resist.

Special Agent Dallas Bradley's mission is clear: infiltrate the Hellhounds and bring their leader, Isaac Thoreau, to justice. Posing as Hawk, Dallas is determined to uncover the secrets of the Thoreau criminal empire. But as he delves deeper into Isaac's world, the lines between right and wrong blur, and soon an undeniable attraction grows between the two men, forcing Dallas to question everything.

Walking away before he's compromised would be the smart choice, but Dallas can't resist Isaac's magnetic pull, even if it means risking his life.

As love and duty clash, only one question remains: will Isaac and Dallas survive the fallout?

Isaac is the first installment in the Light & Shadow duet series. It is not a standalone. This is a dark MM mafia romance that explores mature themes.

Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting this book to be as good as other books by this author. However, it surprised me.

I’m not one to usually read Mafia books, or those where the main characters are both male, so this genre was new to say the least.

The thing that I like most about this author’s books are the inherently flawed and broken characters who deal with trauma and dysfunction like most people do. There isn’t any resemblance to a classical fairytale romance in any of Britt’s novels. This one is no exception.

It’s brutal, gritty, and the quintessential train wreck we can’t keep our eyes from seeing as it derails, smoking and burning us along the way.

Isaac and Dallas (Hawk) are oil and water. Isaac is the criminal element controlling Sin City, and Dallas is an undercover FBI agent sent to infiltrate and bring him down.

Poignantly written to show Isaac’s vulnerability and the redemptive power of love that Dallas feels for him, even though it puts everything in his life at risk: his career as an FBI agent, his family, and ultimately, his very life.

Throw in Italian and Russian mobsters, child traffickers, and Mexican cartels, and what you have is a very good read.

The audiobook is excellent. The narrator for Dallas sounds exactly like you’d expect him to sound.

For mature audiences only due to language, sexual content, and brutality consistent with organised crime and violence.

Dark. Deadly. Dangerous.

Check the Trigger Warning please! This sorry was beautiful and angsty but hits some difficult topics. The narrators to a great job of embodying both characters. It was a little slow to start but the build up was worth it! Need the next book NOW!

I picked up this book because I love one of the narrators. And, the narration was great, it’s probably why I could get through 3/4 of the story. I do like dark romance, but the ones I like have a little lighthearted and funny moments, for some comic relief. This story didn’t have that, it was a lot of angst, internal monologue and depressing scenes. Admittedly, the sexual tension was written very well, but there was no joy in it. Now, that’s my preference… if you like really emotional storylines with beautiful descriptions interspersed with hot sex scenes, you’ll enjoy this. I just couldn’t finish it, I just kept waiting for someone to be happy….

Not for me
