The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.©2006 BBC Audiobooks (P)2014 Audible, Inc. I really like this narrator's presentation of all the different characters, especially Rochester and Jane. None of the minor characters, however minor, had flat performances. Through her attributed cadences you can envision each one. It's such a treat! I really want to try other narrations of Jane Eyre but I literally just restarted it for a second listen, I liked it so much. If you want to be lulled into a mysterious gothic Victorian romance on an evening in, definitely give it a go!

What made the experience of listening to Jane Eyre the most enjoyable?

Juliet Stevenson is fantastic. I have always liked her as an actress, but I am astounded by her skill as a reader. She moved me to tears a few times. I highly recommend this version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jane Eyre?

While Stevenson did a great job throughout, I must say I was in awe of her reading of the passage about Helen Burns' demise. I cried and cried.

Which scene was your favorite?

Who can choose? So many are great!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

We listened in several sittings. My daughter and I don't simply listen; we read along.

Any additional comments?

I am eager to listen to more of Stevenson's reading of the great novels.

I had not read this since high school, over 50 years. I didn't recall all the sadness of the protagonist. Austin's words are so descriptive that one can envision every scene, person and thought. a great read.

Marvelous yet somber

Wonderfully read by Ms Stevenson. With an accent appropriate to England and with the appropriate amount of emotion, she reads the entire tale with faithfulness thus drawing in the listener until it is finished!
