John Carter of Mars is a fictional Virginian soldier who becomes the hero of these thrilling novels. A veteran of the American Civil War, he is mysteriously transported to the planet Mars (called Barsoom by its inhabitants).

Once there he becomes a warrior, battling various mythological beasts, alien armies and malevolent foes.

The first four novels in this series were so popular that, over the years, he wrote seven more. However they never reached the intensity or popularity of the first four.

I have always loved these stories, and was excited to be able to listen to them on my daily drive. Unfortunately, there are too many audio errors and inconsistencies to enjoy it thoroughly. i could get past that, However, there are also missing chapters and duplicate chapters in the books.
