She will not be the same as when she left

Fire and Shadows

Scarlett Semiria sacrificed everything to keep her family, her Courts, and her twin flame safe. But the cost was more than she could have ever anticipated. And now she finds herself once again forced to make a terrible choice that could leave her so broken, even the stars won’t be able to bring her back.

Light and Dark

Crown Prince Callan is more than happy to leave the Fire Court behind, along with the woman who chose someone else. But to protect his people and his kingdom, he is forced to enter into a dangerous deception that could cost him everything.

Beginnings and Endings

Fae Queen Talwyn Semiria has been waiting for decades for Scarlett to return home. She had expected to find a kindred spirit. What she got was a brash assassin who does things her own way and flouts all traditional decorum. She might play nice for now, but when faced with the evil that resides across the sea, she’ll take it all and sacrifice everything.

Everything hangs in the balance

One wrong move, and the scales will tip

Only ashes will remain

This book was much better than the last one, but there are still pacing problems and it’s longer than it needed to be.
The first half is boring and not much happens. Then the plot starts to pick up and it gets interesting and the ending is really good.
I still don’t like Scarlett or Sorin. She continues to be arrogant and impulsive and despite spending pages upon endless pages in the beginning regretting and suffering the consequences of her stupid actions, she seems to learn nothing and still withholds information and refuses to ask for help. Sorin simply lacks a personality. He barely has any initiative and only follows behind Scarlett trying to placate her, failing to protect her or figuring out too late another of her crazy schemings.
I like the side characters though, and I’m intrigued to where the story is going because I really do think there’s a good plot in these books.
