A horde of battle-hardened, ferocious warriors.

A village at the mercy of its enemies.

A bargain struck for nine fearful and reluctant brides.

Delivered into Viking hands, claimed and conquered, each bride must accept that she belongs to her new master.

As wedding nights bring surrender to duty, will fierce lovers also surrender their hearts?

Tortured by brutal memories of his wife’s murder yet commanded to wed, warrior Magnus finds unexpected passion in his new bride’s arms. But can Modwen's love heal the wounds of his battle-scarred heart—or will another’s jealousy destroy them both?

Vikings have taken a town, and married the women within.
The widow of the former blacksmith, found herself married again, to a Viking warrior, who obviously could also work the forge.
However, all was not what one would have expected and the lack of language skills did nothing to assist.
How do these two strangers learn to live together and love each other, is a somewhat beautiful tale, which will entrance a reader who enjoys historical and romantic love stories combined.

Magnus’s wife was killed in a brutal raid. His Jarl commanded him to marry one of the Pict women, but he was sure he would never fall in love.

Magnus and Modwen will have a difficult path to tread. Will Magnus be able to let go of the past to embrace the present? He finds himself drawn to his wife, but how long can he resist? What does Magnus do when another man has his eye on his wife? This story is about sacrifice, hope, love, and redemption. Sometimes, it seems impossible to let go of the past, but with love and hope, it is possible to embrace the future. If you like steamy Viking romances, you might appreciate this story. This is a part of a series of standalone books written by various authors. Most of the books seem to have elements of BDSM. I did not see any in this book. I enjoyed both the audio and the story. The narrators are talented and have great voices.

Taking a wife, because he was ordered to, Magnus did his duty. Even though he’d wed, he knew he’d never feel love like he did for his murdered wife. It it possible his sense of duty can lead to more?

A short story, but very entertaining. Emmanuelle de Maupassant definitely pulls you into the period with her descriptions and characters.

The narration by James Magnum and Violet Knight really brought the story to life. Great accents!

Great story between two people. I am not going to explain the story, lots of that is already available.
I really liked the time setting. With details of how life was at that time makes this a very interesting book. Having visited Viking villages (in Denmark during vacation) I could easily imagine both characters, their daily lives and their interactions.
I loved that Magnus was such an honorable man, and I loved the positive attitude of Modwen.
This was my first time listening to an audiobook. It took a few minutes to get into the story, as I always have with books. I really liked both narraters and their accents. They made the book very lively.
