Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne, and now private investigator. Sort of.

Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa's Workshop toy store are going missing.

Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that's strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.

Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

The story is far too predictable, the characters all so nice and squeaky clean it becomes annoying. If you're looking for a book for your 13-14 year old daughter, this is fine.

Too simple of a story.

I am a huge fan of Kristen Painter's Nocturne Falls Series of books and was excited when I read that she was doing a spin off series featuring the Santa's Workshop Toy Store in Nocturne Falls. This book is brilliantly written and Hollis McCarthy brings Jayne and all of the characters to life.

Jayne Frost is not like the characters that you have read or heard about in the Original series. She is an Elf. A Winter Elf to be exact and the daughter of Jack Frost, the Winter King. She is sent undercover to investigate the missing elves from Santa's Workshop. Over the past 4 years, 6 elves have mysteriously disappeared from the toy store leaving only a resignation letter and the last elf to leave left behind all of his belongings and a kitten. With the help of a vampire and a Summer Elf, Jayne has to find out who is behind the missing elves and why they are disappearing. Will she find out in time or is she the next elf to go missing?

A Frosty Good Mystery!

I'm torn regarding how to rate this book. I love the Nocturne Falls series with the finding your romantic love interest shenanigans but this story strays more towards mystery than romance....it could have had more equal portions of both in order to stay true to the Nocturne Falls history/legacy. I also don't quite understand why a king would send his daughter, a factory worker without any formal investigative training or degree, to a possible hostile territory without back up to secretly investigate a potentially missing people case. Outside of those items above, I enjoyed the story. Ms. Painter is an equally good mystery writer as she is a paranormal romance writer. Great plot and storyline building and decent character building.

While the story was an entertaining holiday distraction, the Narrator almost had me turning it off. Every other line of dialogue had a... pause... and then continued. I get adding feeling and emotion, but that was ridiculous. Listened to the free preview of book 1 and noticed it was a different narrator. WHY DID YOU CHANGE? Just sayin'....

Nix the Narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would and I have. It's a lot of fun. Engaging, great characters and all the necessary elements for a good mystery.

What other book might you compare Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case to and why?

Shanna Swendson's "Enchanted Inc" series. Same spirit and sense of fun along with the adventure.

What does Hollis McCarthy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hollis McCarthy is perfect as the voice of Jayne Frost. Her inflections and interpretation is great.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I listened to it and then when I was finished listened to it again.

Fabulous new series!
