An omega, the sweetest prey. She’s going to be mine, and I'll make sure she never runs from me again.

My family made my life a misery, but there’s nothing I can do to escape them. I have nowhere else to go.

The monster I encounter in the forest overwhelms my senses, calling to the omega in me. I can’t believe I let him touch me, but I’m so starved for affection I can’t help myself.

And then I do the only thing that makes sense…I run.

But the monster hunts me down. He says he gave me a choice, but he’s not letting me go. He’s going to claim me as his mate.

What reason do I have to deny him when my own family doesn't want me?

This is the seventh book in the Monsters in the Mountains series, but it can be listened to as a standalone.

This is the best out of the series so far. There's a lot more story to it than the others. They're good but this is more well rounded. The only complaint I have is that there wasn't enough consequence/revenge against Ivy's aunt and cousins. At the very least he should have stepped on the aunt's foot breaking and puncturing it with his claws with what she did.

Best out of the series out of the ones that I've listened to so far.

He should've been her greatest fear, not her safest place.

Ivy's spent her life used, dismissed, and starved for kindness, so when a storm in the woods throws her into De'drik's path, fear is only the beginning. He's huge, primal, possessive, and far too certain she belongs with him. But the longer she stays in his world, the harder it is to ignore the care beneath his rough edges, or the hunger between them that starts to feel like safety.

What begins as rescue and raw attraction turns into something deeper as Ivy is forced to face how little she expects from life, and how badly she wants the devotion De'drik offers. He doesn't just want her body. He wants all of her, and that kind of need is harder to resist than fear.

Ivy grows from a woman shaped by neglect and low self-worth into someone who starts to believe she can choose desire, safety, and a life built around being loved. De'drik shifts from a solitary, instinct-driven alpha into a man whose protectiveness becomes deeply rooted in care. Their relationship moves from fear and raw attraction into trust, need, and chosen devotion.

Ultra-steamy and emotionally intense, this omegaverse monster romance digs into neglect, survival, trauma, self-worth, trust, belonging, and healing through intimacy as an omega claws her way out of a life built on humiliation. Their bond becomes a dark refuge where survival gives way to devotion and the brutal relief of being fully wanted. ‍

The Elevator Pitch: A neglected omega stumbles out of one kind of captivity and into the path of a monster alpha who wants to claim her with a devotion as dangerous as his hunger. What begins as fear and forced closeness turns into a brutal awakening, where desire, protection, and power become impossible to separate. As she’s pulled between the misery she knows and the refuge she never thought she deserved, love starts to look less like salvation and more like surrender.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

Audio: Narrator Andrew Post delivers a strong performance that fits the dark, ultra-steamy tone of Ivy and De'drik's story. He gives Ivy a softer edge, De'drik real weight, and keeps the voices distinct, while the intimate scenes come through with confidence, control, and heat.

He should be her biggest fear, not her safe place.

Cinderella retellings are one of my favorites- the hurt/comfort, the abuse and servitude of a main character, and how they break free of it and end up with the man of their dreams. Combine that with a monster omegaverse, and this is easily my favorite book in the series even when I first read it (original ebook below). I loved listening to it in audiobook. Andrew Post is a new-to-me narrator and I thought he did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. I had no trouble distinguishing between Ivy's softer voice and De'drik's deeper growly one, or her cruel aunt and cousins. I especially liked his deep voice for De'drik. I LOVED that when it was written that De'drik growled before or after a spoken sentence, Andrew would actually growl and then speak the dialogue. If the character cleared their throat or coughed, Andrew did so in addition to reading the line. It's small but I thought that added to the listening experience. Ivy's male cousin's haughty voice stood out from her family trio and really suited his personality. This was my favorite listen yet. I did listen to it in a faster speed though as it sounded too slow at normal 1.0 speed. I can't wait to listen to Andrew Post narrate more!

Original ebook review 10/6/23-

'I had always believed you could tell a lot about a person from the way they treated animals. He might look like one himself, but he’d certainly proved his intelligence, and I couldn’t help my growing curiosity about the monster who’d decided I was now his charge.'

I've enjoyed all the books in the series and always excited to get my hands on a new book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I liked that this story is longer than the other books usually are. I also loved the Cinderella-like feel to the story in Ivy's situation and treatment. I really liked her and I was hooked to the story. I loved De'drik, and the fact that he had a wolf pup pet was so incredibly sweet to me. He was respectful of Ivy, and honorable. I think she behaved stupidly at one point when the right decision should have been obvious, but it all worked out. And brought a bit of satisfaction. A fun read. 5 stars.

Loved It!
