It seemed a little strange that Detective Sergeant Kathleen Doyle wound up being the ranking officer on this particular homicide scene. It was true that DCI Acton was off somewhere, testifying, and DI Williams was chasing down witnesses on the latest Santeria murder, but Doyle couldn't shake the feeling that she was being manipulated by one or both of them. But to what end?

The unidentified victim was a wealthy man who shouldn't have been mucking about in a Lambeth alley in the first place. Who was he? And why were Acton and Williams staying well-away with only Doyle left to sort it out? It was almost as though they didn't want the case to be resolved too quickly...

Love British crime drama, especially this series with the Irish fey twist along with the Section 7 husband.

Great Read

I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn't see coming and that added to the book's mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It's a first-class whodunit with perfect pacing. Not much is as it appears here, which is just the way fans of mystery, thriller and suspense will want it.

Murder in Shadow had every element a good story should have. An intriguing plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There's an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book. It's one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I'm giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!

I'll definitely be looking forward to reading more from Anne Cleeland in the future. I would highly recommend this book. Five stars from me.

Love this series. My only hesitation by book six is: “why is Doyle’s education so lacking?” She doesn’t have knowledge of so many basics. If she was educated by nuns, this would seem very unusual. It doesn’t make sense at all. Nevertheless, she’s adorable!

Another fun listen

What a great read! Cleeland's writing keeps me entertained all the way through. So far I have not been able to find a book by her that I have not really enjoyed.
