Detective Superintendent Roy Grace faces his most mysterious case yet in the gripping crime novel Need You Dead, by award winning author Peter James.

Lorna Belling, desperate to escape the marriage from hell, falls for the charms of a man who promises her the earth. But, as Lorna soon finds, life seldom follows the plans you’ve made.

When the body of a woman is found, Grace is called to the scene. At first it looks an open-and-shut case with a clear prime suspect. That is, until Grace realizes there is a darker, far more terrifying alternative . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, Need You Dead is the thirteenth title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead If You Don’t and Dead at First Sight.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Critic reviews

Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he's one of the most believable
Peter James is one of the best crime writers in the business (Karin Slaughter)
James just gets better and better and deserves the success he has achieved with this first-class series
Meticulous research gives his prose great authenticity . . . James manages to add enough surprises and drama that by the end you’re rooting for the police and really don’t know if they will finally get their men
No one can deny James’s success as a crime novelist . . . The Grace stories almost always go to the top of the bestseller lists, not least because they are supremely well-told. James writes meticulously researched police procedurals, so informed that you can smell the canteen coffee . . . enthralling
In my thirty four years of policing, never have I come across a writer who so accurately depicts “The Job“ (Detective Investigator Pat Lanigan, Office of the District Attorney, NYPD)
Twisty Plotline • Clever Twists • Superb Narration • Intricate Plot • Compelling Story • Excellent Performance

Peter James never disappoints. Weyman's narration is superb. Finishing this book left me hungry for the next, as always.

I love Peter James' Roy Grace mysteries!
His Grace series have the same attention to detail and descriptive prose as some of the great English mystery writers of the past, but with a totally modern slant.
The development of his characters, through the series, keeps my interest up to see what happens with them all in book after book.
In Need You Dead, I kept hoping that Roy's arrogant boss, Pew, would finally be taken down, but you will have to read the book, with its twists and turns to find that out!
Being a part of Grace's thinking and agonizing to solve the mystery, is also a great technique to keep my interest up to the end.
I recommend reading the Roy Grace series in order, or as close as you can, to keep up with the characters, both good and bad, as they move through the author's clever twists and turns of Roy Grace's career and life.

Always the Twists and Turns
