Idaho game warden Charley Cove knows the wilderness better than most men know themselves—every trail, every shadow, every creature that roams the land. But something is wrong in the mountains. A cryptic warning, a shadow in the trees, and the unshakable feeling that he’s being watched. Then he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit. Someone is hunting him, twisting the evidence, turning his own expertise against him. Charley has spent his life protecting these lands—but now he must outwit a predator who knows exactly how to set a trap.

This book is the third in a series. It follows Five Fingers and Seven Dead Fish.

The detail. Such immersive, engaging, instructive detail. I learn something new with every one of Tony’s books. But also just descriptive details of people, places, animals, and things. Thankfully, he is also good at brevity. Just enough detail for my mind to see and my heart to race. My ears to hear. My skin to tingle.

His style of writing appeals to me. The characters believable. The places real because he knows them and has been there. And his voice and manner of delivery are perfect for his books.

Art is in the details.
