I am hooked on these books

I no longer live in the UK, but grew up there and follow politics. I find these books irritating that they make comments that denigrate some stereotypical view of "identity politics" for want of a better word, that have nothing to do with the actual story. I have enjlyedthe mysteries, but these side comments do nothing to advance the storyline. It's not even clear where they are coming from and what the point of view is, so given that they don't advance the plot, they seem to be the author just throwing in some contemporary stuff because they are working through it themselves. Who knows, but it's consistent enough through the last few that I can't read/listen any longer.

I love the humor even during serious crime solving. The narrator is superb.
I can’t wait for Mr. Dylan’s next book.
The cast of characters on the team are all endearing.
