In this Pride and Prejudice historical romance variation, a young Duke strives for peace, independence, and maybe love in the vapid high society of 19th-century England.

When Alexander Washburn was recalled from the Napoleonic Campaigns in Spain to take up his family's seat at Richmond, he never would have guessed that love was on the horizon for him. With his new position as the duke of Richmond, it is expected that he find a wife to carry on his family line. However, Alex has seen the very darkness of men's souls and suffers from the experience. Is it possible for love to heal a war-torn heart?

This Pride and Prejudice–inspired historical romance is a gentle and emotional listen that feels both familiar and comforting. The story follows Alexander Washburn, a young Duke returning from the Napoleonic wars and stepping into a life of titles, expectations, and social pressure. Having seen the horrors of war, Alex struggles to fit into the shallow world of high society, and his inner conflict is easy to understand and sympathize with.
The audiobook narration works very well for this story. The narrator’s calm, steady voice matches Alex’s serious mood and helps bring out his quiet pain and thoughtful nature. Social scenes are easy to follow, and the emotional moments feel sincere without being overdone.
If you enjoy variations of Jane Austen’s work you will likely appreciate this one. The romance develops gently, focusing more on healing and trust than dramatic twists and offers a warm and thoughtful take on love’s ability to help a wounded heart find peace again.

I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. This is my voluntary review.
This is a lengthy listen 10 hrs plus. Benjamin Fife's narration is expressive and quite perfect for this book. 5 stars for him.
This story pulled at my heart. Alexander's struggle with ptsd and finding true love was quite entertaining.

Entertaining.

It was very well written and the characters were interesting, though it followed the plot of Pride and Prejudice too closely and sometimes it didn’t fit the new circumstances. The narration was as always wonderful.

Good story

I have listened to this audiobook a several times now and each time I pick up on more than previously. The first time through I was so focused on the Pride & Prejudice aspect that I struggled to keep track of who was who as this story does not use P&P names. If you are in a mood for a regency romance then this is a great story for you as it has many aspects of P&P with a smidge of Beauty & the Beast attitude then you will enjoy this story more. Benjamin Fife did an excellent job narrating (as he usually does) and truly brought the characters to life; you can especially feel Alexander’s struggle as he deals with his PTSD. His valet is such a strong support as Alex goes on this journey to see that he can love and deserves it in return. The one thing that I would have LOVED/preferred was a little more at the end or even better a good epilogue to see how things turned out long term. Being married to a retired military man who did serve overseas and having many friends who also did, it is encouraging to see those who worked through their struggles and came out well as this book touches on it is not an easy journey and not everyone will understand that journey.

P&P wrapped up as Regency Romance

This is a pride and prejudice story with different character names with a twist. The main character suffers from his experiences of war. His story was moving and sometimes a bit sad for him. The war is not really talked about in most jaff storylines because it might make it too heavy when readers are looking for a romance to lighten their spirits.
Let me say the narrator brought the story to life.
I will say I spent the entire story trying to keep track of the characters and replacing them with my favorite character names even though this story did not follow pride and prejudice. It took me several days to complete.
