Susan Mallery, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Boardwalk Bookshop, returns with the joyful and utterly irresistible story of a mother who couldn't love her kids more but hopes that, just this once, they please don't come home for Christmas. Perfect for fans of Mary Kay Andrews and Julie Murphy!

Julie Parker’s kids are her greatest gift. Still, she’s not exactly heartbroken when they ask to skip a big Christmas. Her son, Nick, is taking a belated honeymoon with his bride, Blair, while her daughter, Dana, will purge every reminder of the guy who dumped her. Again. Julie feels practically giddy for one-on-one holiday time with Heath, the (much) younger man she’s secretly dating.

But her plans go from cozy to chaotic when Nick and Dana plead for Christmas at the family cabin in memory of their late father, Julie’s ex. She can’t refuse, even though she dreads their reactions to her new man when they realize she’s been hiding him for months.

As the guest list grows in surprising ways, from Blair’s estranged mom to Heath’s precocious children, Julie’s secret is one of many to be unwrapped. Over this delightfully complicated and very funny Christmas, she’ll discover that more really is merrier, and that a big, happy family can become bigger and happier, if they let go of old hurts and open their hearts to love.

Don’t miss Susan Mallery’s brand new novel, BEACH VIBES, a dazzling, clever and poignant story about the family we’re born into—and the one we create for ourselves, coming March 2025!

I really enjoy Susan Mallery books, and I also am comfortable with Tanya Eby narrating them when I can’t take the time to curl up with a book. This book has the right amount of spice for me, more closed door than descriptive. There are multiple storylines as usual, with just the right amount of drama. The tension is believable, and it is easy to get sucked into the story and not want to take a break. I love that every Susan Mallery character is fleshed out and can be somewhat complicated. I have read dozens of her books, and if anything they just keep getting better and better. It feels like she is describing real people, and it is not a case of “once you have read one, you have read them all”. I also really appreciate a cast of characters that are different ages and stages. It is so appealing to a wide variety of readers. Susan Mallery is one of the best authors out there in the romance/women’s fiction genre and I think that I am a super fan. Oh, and while there are no religious references in this novel, the language is also clean enough that I would not be embarrassed if my young adult children caught me listening to it within their earshot. Then again, there were quite a few conversations in this novel that were overheard and either drove the story forward and/or embarrassed one or more of the characters. The trait gave even the cabin some character. It is easy to imagine my kids overhearing the audio book and reacting exactly the same way as the characters I am hearing about, but as I could relate to Julie’s bluntness, the mortification would likely be coming from my kids and not me, so it is harder for me to predict.

If you made it this far through my run-on paragraph, do yourself a favor and stop reading what I wrote and grab this book instead. It’s a good one!

It was ok if you enjoy lots of family drama! I don’t mind a character or maybe two being dramatic, but not every single one. Wasn’t the worst I’ve read though, it just got irritating at times with a few of the characters.

Lots of drama!

Susan Mallery did a great job with blending this family and non family members during the Christmas. There was so much love in this story that it makes the reader want to be a part of their family!
