An amazing story. This is the first time I have encountered a time travel during the pandemic. This story was written beautifully. The second chance to redeem oneself and to fix other chaotic things is something that one should really not mess up. The betrayal between man and wife is horrible and destructive especially when it hurts all involved. I really loved this so much and even the ending had me weirded out but I loved it and made complete sense. Now the narrator hats off to him. He did an amazing job even with the female character, it’s rare to find a male talent that could sound manly and feminine. Absolutely nailed all the characters in this story!

One More Chance by Reno R. Mist was an emotional, intense, and beautifully written second-chance romance. I listened to the audiobook, and Jonathan Waters did a phenomenal job narrating — his performance brought Levi’s emotions and inner turmoil to life.

Levi dies in a tragic car crash and wakes up twelve years in the past, armed with the painful knowledge of what’s to come — his affair, the collapse of his marriage, the suffering of his children, and even a looming global pandemic — Levi is determined to rewrite his story.

What made this book stand out to me was how raw and real it felt. Watching Levi try to make amends, fully aware of the damage he caused, was heartbreaking and hopeful all at once. His journey toward redemption isn’t easy, but it's powerful. I loved seeing how deeply he wanted to fix what he’d broken and prove to Sloane (and his family) that he could become the man they deserved. The character development was incredible — Levi's growth was palpable, and the slow-burn reconnection with Sloane felt authentic and hard-earned.

If you're a fan of dark romance, second-chance love stories, and emotionally rich plots with high stakes, One More Chance is a must-read.

This prequel to the Heretical Gods series uses a powerful hook—time travel—to explore themes of betrayal, redemption, and impossible love.


The story begins with an instantly engaging idea: Levi, the main character, dies in a devastating car crash only to wake up twelve years in the past, given a seemingly impossible gift: a second chance to fix the mistakes that shattered his marriage to Sloane and ruined his family. This setup provides a strong foundation for a compelling redemption arc, pulling the reader right into the story with prose that flows easily and keeps you curious.

Levi’s journey hits hard. Knowing all the pain he has caused and lost, he fights relentlessly to prove to Sloane that she was always the one for him. The groveling and regret are palpable and real, making you root for them the entire time, even when you don't agree with his past decisions. Sloane is a strong, understandably guarded character, but you can feel her walls slowly start to crack as the story unfolds. Their chemistry and history are messy, complicated, and completely addicting.

The book leans on several familiar tropes of the genre, making it feel comfortable and recognizable for fans of second-chance and redemption arcs. It is a raw, emotional marriage-in-crisis romance told from the MMC's point of view that ultimately ends with an HEA, focusing on the lies, redemption, and the wreckage left behind when love is tested.

One More Chance is not just romance, though. As the world quietly begins to crumble, Levi and Sloane must confront their past while fighting to protect their children, adding suspense and a bit of a dystopian edge to the narrative. It delivers heartbreak, action, steamy tension, and small moments of hope that make their survival dependent on choosing one another, again and again.

While the story is strong, it does stumble slightly in pacing. The last stretch of the book feels uneven and a bit dragged out, with some anticlimactic chapters that could have been trimmed, dulling the impact of the final resolution. However, the emotional beats are consistently strong, and the overall story is something else entirely.

If you love dark romance with high-angst tension, complicated characters that feel raw and real, and a time-bending twist, definitely give this one a shot. Be prepared to experience a full range of emotions.
