Vester Gambit just wanted to drop some mail off with his twin brother. When a truck plows into the bus taking them to college, he finds himself embarking on an isekai adventure he never could have imagined.

Ordinal is one world among a near infinite multitude, but it's a world where the gods have seen fit to institute a System to help guide people toward their full potential. The problem is, the gods don't want Vester anywhere near it.

But rules are rules, and so they've got no choice but to let him take part in the Otherworld Adventures. For fans of the Otherworld Academy, this series contains strange humor, odd romance, and a hero facing more obstacles than he knows what to do with.

But Vester's not one to give up just because the odds are against him.

This is a great start to a series. It definitely checked all the boxes for me. Too bad I can't add a few more stars.

all around greatness

Love the Academy tie-in, and otherwise this is a great start to a new series. The only major issue I have is the male narrator. I really found his "normal" voice to be annoying to listen to, with some really odd pacing and elocution. I came pretty close to returning the book at a few points because of him.

I’m pretty sure Deacon Frost is a midget. This is the second series I’ve listened to from him that has an oddly short MC lol. Jokes aside I think this story has some good bones. I started off really not liking the restrictions and the MCs class but the story still held my attention. The ties to Otherworld Academy were really cool too and I’m interested to see where they go.

Midget confirmed

There’s a lot to like here, particularly the world, but the MC is infuriating. In some ways he reacts like I suspect that I would, and in others he’s whiny and childish and makes one of the stupidest leveling decisions I could have imagined. I genuinely cannot figure out why the author did that except to infuriate the reader. Also, the voice of the MC is awful. His internal monologue plays almost constantly, and for some reason he sounds like like a bored angsty teen all the time. Just… why?

MC is sort of relatable AND I kind of hate him
