Jimmy Deane with an "e" is the quintessential orphan, surviving abandonment twice before his feet touch down in kindergarten with the help of his namesake, the late, great, James Byron Dean, and the quirky next-door neighbor, Gillis Lee Wainwright. Skolnick's novel is in turn, irreverent, funny, and sorrowful as she weaves a deft fable populated with a comic and tragic raft of colorful characters meant to be part cautionary tale for parents (and not just those within the adoption triad) and part social critique.

The author captures your heart from the first chapter, giving readers a look into social issues surrounding adoption, interracial relationships and the lives of mixed child, while also uniquely leaving us with the importance of connection. I especially loved the way Corie created such a story that, through her incredible writing, touched us in so many ways. Bravo!

Very well-written. From the opening sentences until the book's epilogue, I was enthralled. I couldn't wait to see what happened next was continually surprised at ..the twists and turns throughout. By the end I was as invested in the main character as if I had known him personally.

Riveting from start to finish!

A great book. Takes you in and makes you want to be part of the story. Witty, funny, edgy, unexpected, and heart filled!!!!!
Can't wait to see JD on the big screen with the rest of the characters.

Amazing over and over again.

It's hard not to think of Forrest Gump, with all the real-world stars who show up in the story. A little magic, a little conflict, mostly just a fun trip.

Fun story with nostalgia and rock music
