He Called It A Tragic Accident.
On a May evening in 1998, the idyllic marriage of wealthy Lake Tahoe couple Peter and Rinette Bergna ended in a crush of metal as their truck plunged 800 feet down a Sierra-Nevada mountainside. Peter was thrown from the vehicle and lived. Rinette, strapped in her seat, died on impact. In time, the grieving widower would meet a new woman, and put the tragic past behind him. Two-and-a-half years later, his life took another fateful turn....

Authorities Called It A Crime.
Bergna, esteemed art appraiser and son of one of California's most prominent attorneys, was indicted for the murder of his wife. Was Rinette's death really an accident - or deliberate homicide to free a controlling killer from a financially and emotionally trying marriage? The contradictory twists and turns of the case resulted in a hung jury. But it was the second trial that would yield even more surprises as a divided community waited for the final stunning verdict.

We'll pretty interesting reading. I wasn't so impressed by the Police, in their forensic investigation. The narrator was good .

OK true crime

love these type of books. I enjoyed this because, it did not read every single word for word when they went to trial. It kept my attention without giving too much attention.

Kept my attention from the beginning

I understand the need for accuracy when transcribing an interview and not omitting information however repeating everything the suspect says 2,3,even 4 times makes it hard to focus on the story.

The repetition of every other sentence.

Nails this phony murderer down pat. Makes it so clear what actually happened as to the murder of his wife that it brings a breath of fresh air to the entire genre of true crime.

Fleeman at his best.

I’ve read many of Michael Freeman’s books, and liked them all, this one is really well done, with an amazing narrator. The death scene here is so crazy, just a shocking way to kill someone. I highly recommend this one.

Excellent True Crime!
