My life has never been normal. Raised by a survivalist, taught how to endure anything, I've learned to rely on myself. To keep my head down—to mind my own business. That all changes when I hear the screams.

There, in that filthy alley, I thought I was pulling Emmeline out of the darkness and toward safety, but it turns out, she was pulling me in. My new friend's world collides with my own, and they couldn't be more different. Where I spend my days alone, she rarely can. Not with four brooding brothers hellbent on her protection, watching over her every move.

Guardians that set their sights on me, who want to claim me as their own.

Theirs is a world of violence and bloodshed, of teeth and fangs. Monsters lurk in the shadows, just waiting for their chance to strike. A sane person would be terrified, but even as danger closes in around us, I know without a shadow of a doubt that they're bigger threats than the ones they tell me I should fear.

To protect their family, they'll become the monsters of legends and myths. The question is, if I'm supposed to be their salvation, does that mean I'm even more cursed than they are?

To save us all, am I willing to damn myself?

Contains mature themes.

Disappointed to give this one less stars than it deserves simply because of the steep cliffhanger ending. In my opinion it isn’t a complete book. The main plot is in no way resolved and even MORE loose ends are added in the last chapter. I enjoyed the book but always feel tricked after spending so much time on a book only to have a cliffhanger and paywall.

Cliffhanger

The dynamic of how their wolves work, and how pack law works, is different from a lot of werewolf stories I’ve read, but I’m not mad. I actually kind of loved that it was different. Also the concept that they’re werewolves but also not was pretty cool!

The Plot

Loved it! Perfect escape from reality. Not a literary masterpiece (why expect that with shifter novels anyway?) Not a lot shifting yet for those who love wolf aspect far of the story tho. Some steam but not so much smut there is no plot. FMC is not whiny and does have a good bit of internal dialogue so you really get to know her as a character. I would say she is mentally strong but at this point physically vulnerable. The RH main characters have distinct personalities and they don’t all blur together. Not exactly the same old RH characters with the retriever, nerd, bully types, but does somewhat stick to it a little - no real bully so far, one a bit slower to act. Twins! Wealthy but wounded RH, touch her and die, protective family. “High angst” light so far - comfortable read and will be a great pallet cleanser reread.

New author for me that I stumbled upon. Read first book in another series and loved it but switched to this series because the other doesn’t have last (?) book on audible until February. Enjoyable read that didn’t stress me out!

This is a great book. I only have to minor complaints. I wish it was just a little longer. So that the girls friendship was more solid before chaos hit and more of a the other guys trying to get the main characters attention. Other than that it’s great.

I wish it was longer.

(Still reading) I love the plot at least what I’ve been able to gather of the plot, but respectfully, this writing is awful. The universe building is almost nonexistent and the character development is seriously lacking. I’m in a constant battle between cringing, rolling my eyes, and itching for more. It’s like the author was trying to be deep but instead of a slow build they just decided to lay it all out there making the characters seem pretentious instead of thoughtful. Honestly listening to this writing is irritating but I keep going because the I can feel the intention behind the story. I’m not saying it should’ve been a slow burn necessarily but the relationship building is practically nonexistent, every aspect of this book feels rushed. It’s upsetting that a storyline this good is being dragged down by poor execution.

A painful listen. A great story overshadowed by poor writing.
