Frank had finally built a life that worked—and didn’t trust it.

Five months in Green Mountain have given him steady work, hot meals, and two people who now shape every call he makes. Maisie watches everything and keeps a bag half-packed. Eight-year-old Zoe trusts the rules, the school bell, the promise that adults mean what they say.

Frank’s seen places flip overnight. He tries to stay ready without scaring them, to keep this life intact without pretending it can’t break.

When the outside world shows up at the fence, Frank has to decide how much he’s willing to trust the gates—and what he’ll do when they don’t hold.

Not as good as Old Bones but still worth a listen especially as it is free. Frank is a great character, love those girls, some good people lost, new ones join the travels. If there is a third book, I will continue. The virtual voice is surprisingly decent.
