- Detective Lovel is a magiker who is considerably older than he appears and almost everybody knows. He is the oldest child of a huge family.
- Miranda ran away from home while in high school. She is a gorgeous young woman who is also a weasel shifter. Miranda has been hiding in the “Necropolis” which is supposedly an underground storage area for a park in Cauldron City. Miranda was used for some magiker tricks she used to in petty thefts. She only stole for survival but some of the gangs in the Necropolis wanted her to get involved in serious crimes. She was arrested stealing food from a dragon owned grocery store. The police Commissioner sent her as a cadet to Precinct 153 for a new start instead of prison time. Lovel’s captain assigned her to him for training. Together they use her inside knowledge of a gang called Mercy to try to stop the poisonings and killing by them and especially their leader.

really enjoyed tthe characters and plot. narrator did a great job. Definitely looking forward to the next book.

Mercy strikes, deaths rise, and the officers of Precinct 159 must work harder than ever to stop the devistation caused by monsters determined to wipe out the majority of the population of the world. We first met Lovell in the first book of the series, Dead Weight, as part of a tight-knit team working to stop a serial killer/mass murderer. That book was Excellent - and this one is as well! A magic user of great power, Lovell works with dragons, unicorns, other magic users - and don't forget, an extremely sensitive elephant - to track the killers and stop their reign of terror in Caldron City and beyond. Of course, their must be a love interest, and Miranda is the perfect foil for Lovell. Crazy families, both found and natural, round out the story.

I am loving this series. I am actually gonna go check Kendall to see if there’s any more books in the series available for reading until the next Audible comes out because I will be owning them in more than one format. These books are fun and clean enough for teen readers.
