In the peace and tranquility of the woods at Pinehills on a Saturday afternoon, a mobile phone begins to ring. The phone belongs to DC Smith, and it isn't unusual that the call is from Kings Lake Central police station; what is unusual is the fact that he seems to be the subject of an investigation rather than taking part in one. What can the links be between a prisoner's violent death in another county, the disappearance of two teenagers, and the highest profile case in Kings Lake for many years? As Smith and his team begin to untangle the threads, one thing becomes clear - they are dealing with some of the most dangerous people that they have yet encountered.

A wonderful audio performance, Great plotI, nteresting reoccurring characters a wonderful pleasant story. Lots of fun literary references and the author definitely has a great sense of humor.

Another great book in the series

I am sorry, as much as I love the descriptive writing and character development, I am having an issue coming up with over fifteen words to describe all that I enjoyed.

I love the character development, the plot lines, as well as the reading.

I really enjoy these books- easy to listen to, interesting relationships, and investigations. Too bad about the way women are sometimes portrayed such as commentary that is often snarky about women not really being up to the job and unhelpful tropes about women in the workforce being sullen and reserved.- maybe a little more research would be good there.

Great story but with misogyny showing…

One of my favorite series with great characters and solid plots. The humour softens some of the serious themes.

,D.C. Smith to the rescue

Good plot. Characters are interesting. But, just like in first book, DC Smith describes one character as a “colored girl”. This book is too recent for such an offensive term to be casually used by the main character. This should be addressed.

Good characters and narration.
