Dr. Jacey Flanigan has worked tirelessly to achieve her dream of becoming a pediatric cardiologist. But when she moves to Manhattan to begin her career at a prestigious children's hospital, she discovers that the medical profession may not be what she expected.

An encounter with an arrogant heart surgeon on her first day sets the tone for what's to come - a world of enigmatic physician behavior and questionable cardiac surgical practices cloaked in secrecy.

As she navigates this new world, Jacey finds herself facing a difficult moral dilemma: turn a blind eye to malpractice and protect her fledgling career, or risk everything by delving deeper into suspicious activity.

With deadly secrets and unexpected consequences lurking around every corner, Jacey must decide whether to stay silent or speak up, even if it means putting everything on the line—including her life.

I enjoyed the med medically base story. The use of different voices for characters by the narrator was a little difficult at times.

The plot was interesting, and held my attention. Subject matter was appropriate for today’s society.

The narrator ruined it for me, some of the time she sounded like a very uneducated person another it was the fake southern accent. Also, at the beginning in the story, I couldn’t understand why the nurse assigned her to the patient whose MD was so cruel. What a way to learn a new job.

Interesting story

I found this audiobook's story quite engaging, but the narration was so annoying that I constantly checked how much I had left because I did not connect with the narrator. The way she changed her voice for the male characters vacillated between someone dying and Thurston Howell (for those old enough to recognize the reference). The female characters sounded like scared children, Paula Deen or a snotty valley girl. One was worse than the next. I would READ a Gary Birken, MD book again, but I would never listen to one with this narrator again. It would have been a more pleasant experience if she had just used her regular voice.

Great Story, Narrator Not So Much

I enjoyed this book very much. I can't wait to start the next—excellent narration and story. As a medical provider, I especially liked this book because the writer was spot on with the medical issues. Even if I wasn't, I found this book fascinating.

Great book about how greed can change people’s lives. It’s scary to think that this is probably happening in some hospitals today. Good read.
