You wake up floating. Not in the air, but horizontally in a coffin-sized chamber filled with blue gelatinous fluid. You do not remember what this is. You do not remember why you are here. You do not remember who you are.

This is how it begins: Select-Your-Destiny™, a storytelling experience that places the listener directly in the action by giving them the power to choose what happens. The narrator describes the circumstances, and once a Destiny Node is reached, the listener chooses what happens next. The narrator narrates, the listener chooses. That is how it has always worked—until now.

In this story, the listener chooses to team up with the narrator, collaborating on what shape the story will take. A story of an unnamed teen who must piece together what’s going on after waking from suspended animation in a vacant bunker deep underground without memory. With each twist and turn, each Destiny Node, the listener and narrator begin to recover what was lost. What comes to light will transform them both.

I needed something short to take a break from an extended, intricate, Sci Fi series. Project Kawayan was selected on a whim, as it looked interesting. I didn't expect to be cleverly immersed in, what I see as, the meat of humanity's failures as a species. (Re: selfishness & the "other"/tribalism) You're certainly not overwhelmed by it, but it's vividly there. Should be required reading for every human 12≤ y/o, with discussions to follow.

....Wow....

I really didn’t care much for this story but felt I had to at least give it an overall 4 star review to make up for so many reviewers slamming this title due to the “interactive choices” being “broken”. It is an audio book! It is not interactive! It is a story about an interactive adventure and the choices the narrator makes. You are the listener! The choices you yell at your phone or iPad do not matter! Nothing is broken!!!!

Come on Audible readers, use your brains!

This is a truly interesting work. Causes you to consider what life may become for all of us one day. Just living in a story because we destroyed our precious Earth. Great work, awesome narrators, and interesting twists and turns. Told from a totally different angle.

I can see how someone would dislike this book, the style is very unique and not actually interactive (I was kinda relieved by that haha). You’re more like an observer than “the Listener.” I liked it more once it became a “we” thing, and the actual story was very interesting, I could’ve listened to a lot more

Unique, not interactive

Misleading description of what the story is and what it can do. Still entertaining. Makes you think. Listen till the end. If there are any doubts, listen to the beginning again.

Entertaining yet deceptive.
