Cooper Nelson’s SEAL career was cut drastically short when an explosion left him almost completely deaf. With so much of his pride and self-worth tied to the profession he loved above all else, Coop struggles in his nearly silent new world, his future seemingly bleak…until Commander Hurt badgers him into volunteering at the Riverton School for the Deaf. There, he meets teacher Kiera Hamilton, who opens his eyes - and his heart - to a love more fulfilling than any job could be.

Ten years his senior, Kiera can’t believe Coop would ever be interested in anything long term, but he patiently proves her wrong. And she’s not the only one enamored with the sexy former-SEAL - her impressionable first-grade students are enthralled with the man, especially Frankie. The troubled young boy flourishes with each of Cooper’s visits, which only makes Kiera fall harder.

As he learns ASL, connects with the students, and gets closer to Kiera, Coop’s happier than he’s ever been…until an attempted abduction at the school threatens to take away everything that makes his new life worth living.

**Protecting Kiera is the 9th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be listened to as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you listen to the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Cooper is all the things we love about Stoker’s men—strong, protective, patriotic, yummy and, in this case, almost entirely deaf. He has to relearn how to communicate and experience the world in a new way.

A previous novel of Stoker’s had a male lead 10 years old than the heroine. I love that this was reversed in this story. It also added to being sympathetic to Kiera’s insecurities about her body, her age, etc.

In some of Stoker’s works the action is the main storyline- running from bad guys, fighting to survive or get home, etc. This novel is not really like that, it is more relationship and everday struggles with a little action thrown in towards the end. That is not an endorsement or a criticism, it is to say I like had her works- with there being so many- are not cookie cutter.

Oh I loved the ASL jokes- dirty words, misunderstanding and symbols the Seals use vs actual ASL. It is a fascinating language and I loved how wonderfully it was all handled.

As always, Bloom and Stoker are a dream team. Great narration.

ASL--Amazing Stoker...Love

This was a great addition to a set of stories that I have greatly enjoyed. It was awesome to see an unfortunate incident that takes a man’s hearing turn into such a life changing moment. Injuries are a part of life, it’s what you do after them that changes lives.

Short and sassy

I love this short but sweet story about Cooper. Last time we saw him he had just been injured while on duty. I loved that we got his story and got to experience his happily ever after with him and Kiera.

Yup! Another Winner

I have always enjoyed Susan Stokers stories about brave men protecting women. For some reason, this story didn’t keep my attention as well as previous books. I felt the story was rather simple and lacked much in the way of fleshing out the characters in the way I was used to her writing. It was still an enjoyable listening experience, but it could have been more. Narration was well done.

Not my favorite, but still good

I really loved this books. The two main characters were so wonderful, loving and were definitely soul mates. I enjoyed the fact that it was about living with deafness and how the retired Seal used his disability to teach deaf children in a special school. A number of the Seal team characters showed up in the story.

Very sweet story
