Everyone leaves.

Love is risky business when you’re an assassin. Helena Madigan has lost loved ones to the family business before. Now that she’s in charge, she’s determined never to risk her heart again. Except every time Celia enters the room, she takes Helena’s breath away.

But the one time someone stays.

Celia Perri likes to be helpful.

She just wants to run the family auto shop, raise her kids, and help her brother plan his wedding. But when a drive-by shooting targets the garage, Celia’s simple life is upended. Now ensconced within the Madigan family, there’s no escaping Helena, the blonde bombshell she’s been crushing on for months.

It could cost her everything.

As the Madigans investigate, Celia witnesses their love and loyalty up close. And their business. Instead of being afraid, she sees a place for herself among them. She could be a confidant and caregiver - if only Helena would stop pushing her away. If only she’d admit their mutual attraction might lead to more. And if only someone would stop shooting at them long enough to find out.

Queen’s Ransom is the fourth book in the Fog City romantic suspense series. It can be listened to as a stand-alone, but is best enjoyed after listening to Books One through Three of the series.

I liked this new novel in the Fog City series from Leyla Raine. I found the characters intriguing and the storyline solid but I did feel that this suffered from the narration. I think the narration fell flat and the voices weren't varied enough for my taste.

Good

I’ve been on the hunt for an FF story I can really connect to and while I had some trouble from not having listened to any of the previous books I really enjoyed This one and will have to go listen to the others!

Great sorry.

…because I HAD to endure what has to be one of the worst narrations ever. I had to…I’m so invested in the series and main characters that I couldn’t skip this one…the FOMO was just too strong.

WAIT! There’s hope…after I started listening and thought I was being pranked for the first five minutes…I seriously considered getting my credit back…but I remembered my little trick that prevented a DNF (I try to never do that). I started listening at 1.5x speed and voila! Bored-sounding, energy-sucking narrator was no more…bonus, I slogged through the book faster.

The story wasn’t too bad, it just wasn’t good…did not compare to the previous books at all. There’s a little more foreshadowing, but that’s about it. I mean, Helena deserved a better story! She’s so integral and badass in the previous books…I expected more for her. In any case, I would have enjoyed the entire thing more if Tristan had narrated. Truly.

Anyway…I know how unique we all are…we all walk away from a book feeling very differently as individuals…I love a character that thousands dislike, etc., so if you are invested…don’t skip this one. Just crank up the speed and press on. LOL.

Otherwise, let’s get to Holt’s story…I’m so sure he’s got a frigging warehouse full of angst stored up for us!

Enjoy!💖

I have not read a lot of FF romances nevertheless I was really excited for this book since her series “Agents Irish and Whisky” has been of my favorite series ever. And I love her new venture into this exciting and thrilling romance of two badass women.

Helena loves being in control of her family business but baring the burden of Madigan family’s responsibility on her shoulders is not an easy task. For her, relationships are a luxury and true love is just a pipe dream she doesn’t dare to dream of. Celia has been living a quiet life running her family auto shop, raising her kids and seriously crushing on Helena. These two women have sizzling attraction between them but they are from two different works. However when a situation brought Celina to entangle with Helena and her family business, Helena found herself not being able to run away from her true love, Celina, the woman she’s been dreaming of.

With Leyla’a brand of thrilling and exciting action full of drama, I fell in love with this blonde bombshell of a badass woman and her lovely girlfriend who would stand by her no matter what. They really compliment each other well with different personalities and I’m all for their romance and action. I think this wrapped up the series quite well. Loved it.
