Courage isn’t having the strength to go on, it’s going on without having the strength.

Betrayal by one of their own leaves Ben and the others with more questions than answers as they push westward toward Colorado and their home in Durango. Or what’s left of it.

Ben tries to put Martin’s midnight escape and theft of their supplies in the past but soon finds out that won’t be as easy as he’d hoped.

Circumstances beyond their control and Martin’s selfishness land them in trouble yet again, forcing Ben, Sandy, and the kids to fight for their survival.

The road home is fraught with peril and only getting worse thanks to dwindling resources and an unrelenting heat wave that threatens their progress. The remaining survivors they encounter are forced to desperate new lows, redefining evil for Ben and his crew. It’s all they can do to find the courage to go on.

I found this book more enjoyable than the last several books. Mostly, I guess, because there was more actual story content and less mindless rambling by the main character. The story itself had me pretty engaged throughout most of the book as well. I hope the rest of the series continues to improve. Now if only they'd discover the miracle of keeping their dogs on a leash in potentially dangerous situations...

Better Than The Last Few Books

People, technology, changing social order, clans and changing weather come to life in this incredible series that is wrapped up in a good story, albeit one with male centered narration and perspective. I keep wondering why they haven’t come across a strong talented woman with survival skills and why the only “looking through someone’s eyes” story telling is done only from the male characters. It seems like the women end up with a lot of the babysitting and more mundane or menial tasks in this adventure. Having said that, if you can look past this, it is a great series and I highly recommend it! The narration is outstanding and the world-building skills of the author in creating an EMT post apocalyptic basis for the series are phenomenal. I just wish there was more variety in how this world is experienced. Very enjoyable!

Another great twist on this EMP Apocalypse Series
