Rome - The Rise and Fall is designed as a bitesize, concise but easy-to-listen retelling of what happened to one of the greatest empires in history.

The Roman Empire began with a boy named Romulus and ended with a boy named Romulus. Between the years 753 BCE and 476 CE, this magnificent empire rose in might, but died in misery. This story is derived from the narrations of the ancient writers who themselves were eyewitnesses and it draws upon the myths that invigorated the Roman spirit. The dream that became the Roman Empire was created upon a Utopian scenario, but was vulnerable to the human frailties that besiege everyone. Hence its rise and hence its fall.

Some of the minor details were wrong. However I loved hearing about the early days of Rome as a monarchy, and young Republic.

a good listen.

If you like history, you will love this book! It covers all the major happenings in the history of Rome and it is an easy read/listen. It is very much a survey of history, rather than a deep in depth look at everything, but I really liked that. It gave me everything I wanted to know, and a bit more, and it was easily digested. Some history books can be so boring and dull and this is definitely NOT one of those. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys history and/or just wants to brush up on their Rome history knowledge.

Great history text!

I listened to this in two sittings. It was that interesting. They used a lot of sources from the contemporary authors from that time. It goes from the beginning of Rome and the period of kings in Chapters 1-4. Chapters 4-6 cover The Republic and the start of the Empire. The rest of the book covers the emperors and the disintegration of Rome. This has great details but does not get bogged down. I think this could be listened to by anyone who knows a little or a lot about Roman history. I got this free in exchange for this review but I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Roman history. I loved it.

I started this a while ago, after I shared the part about the geese and let my husband listen to part of it, now he won’t let me finish it without him! We have really enjoyed the way Brad Glen has brought Rome to life for us.
