When three of the world's most prominent horror writers are viciously blackmailed, they are left with no choice but to abandon their comfortable lifestyles and take up seclusion in a tiny cabin in the mountains of Colorado, just on the outskirts of a mysteriously deserted mining town.

As the three trapped writers work together, struggling to understand and meet the demands of their blackmailers, they soon realize that they aren't alone. There's something else out there in the woods with them - something that doesn't like visitors - and soon these masters of the macabre are caught right in the middle of their own very real horror story.

I enjoyed the book very much. Likeable characters, good sense of place. Will try another of his books.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Educated narrator, experienced writer, intelligent follow through - any of these would have helped this book. While the concept actually had promise, the author seems to have stopped working beyond this point. The narrator was totally unequipped for reading more than short sentences and completely savaged pronunciation of common words. This premise had possibility. Too bad.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am currently touring horror, with mighty hopes

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lucas Kitchen?

There are many terrific narrators out there who could even pull this off - to a point.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I would not recommend this book to anyone. It needs to return to the rejection pile and possibly be pulled apart and completely re-imagined. From there the author could attempt a new effort.

Any additional comments?

This is a book I would return. I have purchased (thousands?) from Audible and some have been flops while most are terrific 'reads'. I listen to multiple genre but often dip into horror in hopes of finding the rare new book that really chills.

Apt title. Intriguing concept, inept narrator....
