Africa is no stranger to tinpot dictators. Warlords luring the gullible into joining and frequently dying for their violent coup. The latest in this long line of warlords is planning to establish an Islamic state in the North East of the benighted Democratic Republic of Congo. During his bloodthirsty rampage, the ‘Man Who Would Be Caliph’ has taken hostages. An American doctor, two European nuns, and four sick children. Threatening to kill them if the United States interferes with his plans to seize the reins of power and use Sharia law to dominate and terrorize a large chunk of the Congo.
Cooper’s team is tasked to free the hostages. They conduct a night drop close to Bunia and enter the city. The prisoners are held inside a concrete blockhouse in the center of a former police barracks. The building is poorly guarded, and at first everything goes well. Until the enemy learns of the intruders, and they are trapped inside the prison, under attack from a horde of vengeful Islamists. As if that wasn’t enough, the older nun refuses to cooperate with her rescuers, and Cooper finds himself not just up against the insurgents but pitted against a serious force to be reckoned with. A religious figure every bit as fierce as the fighters of the Caliph. In order for them to emerge alive, he has to beat back the fanatical followers of Islam, and when over the no less fanatical nun. Two fights, and both are in doubt.
SEAL Attack Book 11: Close Quarters Battle is the eleventh shortread novel in the SEAL Attack series. The book is a collaboration between Todd McLeod and Eric Meyer, the bestselling author of more than fifty war novels.
