A love lost, a frontier fading, and a destiny written in the dust of the American West.

After the tragic death of his Crow Indian wife, Graham Davidson is left adrift, searching for a purpose that always seems just out of reach. His journey leads him to join Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, where he crosses paths with Sitting Bull, Annie Oakley, and other legends. He meets an aspiring horsewoman named Grace, whose friendship awakens feelings he thought were buried forever.

Beyond the spectacle of the arena, an Indian prophet inspires the Ghost Dance, a religion that sweeps across the plains. Fearing an uprising from the Lakota Sioux, the government tries to suppress the movement, and tension rises on the reservations.

Graham finds a temporary home with the Wild West, but his heart is restless. Torn between a possible future with Grace and the haunting pull of an uncertain trail, he leaves the show.

But fate calls him once more—this time to Wounded Knee, where a Sioux child he once saved faces grave danger.

I most appreciated Graham’s sincere desire to understand the indigenous people he met, humanizing them, unlike our “history” lessons in school. I love the relationships he built and the people he loved.

I have enjoyed all four books and the ongoing story of the westward expansion and consequences to the people who had lived there for thousands of years. I look forward to Graham’s story continuing.

I have read every book in this series, each leaving me with a desire for more. Galloway’s determination to define our troubled past with genuine characters (both real and conjured) gives me a greater appreciation for the humans who WERE that history…those who actually spent their lives creating it.

I have looked forward to this fourth book since I closed the cover of the previous one…dare I wish for a fifth? I have always loved studying history, D. A. Galloway has the skill to make yesterday’s events live again so we can savor the cost of every step…hoping we learn from each path taken. Thank you for sharing your gift, your talent, Mr. Galloway.

I loved all aspects. Either too gory or too sexual. I loved how Graham was just a really good guy that follows his heart. I listen to the book 1 accidentally when I finished a series from another author book 1 popped up. I listened to the first 3 while driving out to Wyoming to visit Yellowstone. It was so thrilling to see many of the sites that had been named in the book. I think my favorite was the Dragons Mouth. I also spent time in Cody and absolutely love that little town. I will return to the Buffalo Bill museum for a second time when I plan to visit again next Fall ‘26 and want to see the Medicine wheel and other places I missed before.
