My father just informed me of his plans to take over his rivals business. I have so much to do in a short time frame to make it happen. But if I do...I secure my place as the new owner of all of our businesses as he sets in place a five year plan toward his own happy retirement. All my hard work is paying off. I just have to solidify a few things. With that I know what I have to do. I know it is late but my assistant needs to be ready to set up a meeting for me with the Flemings for Monday Morning. I marched into her office and it is empty!
I pick up the phone and rapidly dial her number, she better be awake.
"H-h-hello?”
“WHERE ARE YOU?” I bellowed. I am wrapped so tight as everything is riding on this for my success.
“Um...in my room." Her soft voice said with a shake. Her voice sounded off like she had been sleeping or something.
“No, you’re not! I am here and your room is empty. Stop lying!” It is so hard to find good help these days!
“I-I just needed some fresh air. I couldn’t breathe! Please don’t tell him! Don’t tell him! You need to keep quiet. You know what he did earlier. Please, please, please, I can’t take another punishment yet. I will never make it up and out of bed tomorrow to get to work. Please have mercy, please...” A heart crushing sob escaped her the broken voice on the other end of the line. I paused a long moment.
“Wait a minute, who is this? Carman is that you? What happened?” This time is the girl takes a long pause.
“Ah....um...no. This is not...Carman. Sorry. Oh no. Please Sir disregard what I just said. I didn’t know...I thought it was...Oh my, what have I done?” I could hear her panting and her fear oozed through the receiver.
I took a deep breath, then speaking softly and calmly, “Calm down Sweetie, It’s okay. Just take a deep breath and let it out. I didn’t mean to scare you. Sounds like you are afraid. Are you in a safe place?”
I had no idea my life would change from me dialing a wrong number. I need to find a way to safe my broken little angel.
