There once was a gypsy's pendant said to bring its wearer the heart of a duke. Some found love and others - heartache. In this passionate series, clever, once-wounded, twice-wary women will find their chance at happily ever after...and maybe even, the heart of a duke!

A lady betrayed:

Finishing school instructor Mrs. Rowena Bryant is hated by her students, revered by the headmistress, and absolutely determined to maintain her financial security. Deceived years ago by the only man she'd ever given her heart to, Rowena relies on no one but herself - that is the best way to keep her most scandalous secret.

A soldier turned duke:

When Graham Linford returned from war on the cusp of death, he discovered he'd been betrayed by the woman he loved. From that moment, Graham shaped himself into an unfeeling nobleman, refusing to ever suffer the agony of betrayal again. Now a duke, Graham is determined no one will ever discover the touch of madness that has haunted him since battle.

Lovers reunited:

When Graham finds himself named guardian to a young lady, the woman sent as a companion to his ward is none other than Rowena Bryant. With every moment spent together, their passion reignites, and the walls they've built to keep one another out begin to crumble. But when their dark past tests them again will true love be enough to repair their damaged hearts?

This was a good story.. however I do not understand why they just didnt ask one another what happened until almost the very end of the book, i did love the scene with the Muted swans.. very amusing....and Ainsley is amazing..hopefully we see her in her own story??

Pretty good

This was a struggle to finish. I ended up skipping chapters. The basic premise was fine, but there was so much rumination and repetition on why these two hated each other (at the beginning), and then why they felt they couldn't be together (in the last part of the book). It was just good enough that I ended finishing, but barely.

So much repetition

I wish there had been an Epilogue as the ending seemed abrupt. The story dragged quite a bit. I hound myself wishing the author would just get on with it. There were several loose ends that I would have liked to have seen. For example I would have loved to see a confrontation with Rowena’s parents and more about Ainsley. It would have provided a more complete story. The body of the story could have have been cut somewhat and the above suggestions could have been entered.

Good story but dragged out

I did have to dial down narration speed. So this was a books that took more time.

a colorful story

I have enjoyed this book from the first page to the end. It is an enchanting look at love and I plan on listening again. The narrator has a convincing ducal voice. He did well with interpreting of all the characters. There were lines in the story that I would have preferred a feminine voice. However, in the end, the swans won out.

A+A+A++++++
