Amir Levine, MD, coauthor of the groundbreaking, multimillion-copy bestseller Attached, presents a bold new promise—that anyone can learn to create a secure life—and offers cutting-edge tools to make it a reality.

Years after first introducing attachment styles to the general public and forever revolutionizing our understanding of human connection, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine returns with a brilliant, paradigm-shifting work on the science and practice of secure attachment. As Dr. Levine explains in Secure, people with a secure attachment style are the most comfortable not just in their relationships, but also in their own skins. And remarkably, the latest research shows that anyone, regardless of how insecure they may feel, can learn to create a secure life.

The benefits of living in “secure mode” are extraordinary: people tend to be healthier and have a better relationship with their health care providers. When they do have a difficult illness, they have fewer symptoms and handle it better emotionally. If they’re looking for a job, they’re more effective in their search and their self-esteem doesn’t suffer as much. They are less susceptible to consumerism. They even navigate social media better and experience fewer of its negative impacts.

In Secure, Dr. Levine presents his pioneering approach, Secure Therapy and Coaching, offering practical, neuroscience-backed tools to help readers cultivate security so that they can thrive. Secure is the definitive guide for anyone looking to improve their emotional health, deepen their connections, and build more fulfilling lives.

Good for anyone looking to move beyond the basic attachment theory to say "OK, so now how do I get to secure?" Highly recommend the listen.

A very useful book

I love that we went from Attached to Secure, and I love how we’re talking about how to become secure. One thing that made it a little hard for me to read was that toward the end, we shifted to speaking from a place of lack rather than using affirmations. For me, it’s a bit confusing when the framing is about what’s missing rather than what we should be doing instead

Good overall read I’d change one thing

Secure builds on the guidance in Dr. Levine’s first book, Attached, for finding secure collection. Secure is broader in scope and more nuanced, focusing on all relationships in a person‘s life, not just romantic ones and stressing the importance of building a “secure village“ of trusting connections, rather than relying on just a few relationships to do all the emotional caretaking. One of the most hopeful ideas in the book is that attachment styles aren’t fixed. Levine gives a roadmap towards finding a more secure life through so many accessible and actionable changes that we can make in our social lives. I enjoyed Robert Petkoff narration of Levine’s book and appreciated that he also narrated Attached, giving both books a consistent unifying voice. I first read Secure, but felt that the material was so rich that I wanted to have a second pass at absorbing the concepts, so I just completed a listen. Highly recommend!

Robert Petkoff makes Levine’s book feel like a transformative conversation.

I got some good tips from the book and it has a good point of view on transforming dysfunctional interpersonal behavior into healthy practices. I found the book a little too jargony, however. But I’m glad I read it.
