Subtitled Richard Sharpe and the Invasion of France, June to November 1913, this story features a corrupt political enemy who is determined to disband the South Essex Regiment, and to destroy the life of Major Richard Sharpe.

Sharpe returns to England and discovers an illegal recruiting ring that sells soldiers like cattle to other divisions. The ringleaders know Sharpe is on their trail, and they try to kill him at every turn. But Sharpe is fighting for his command, and as he moves from the dark slums of London to the highest courts of political power, Sharpe will risk charges of treason and death for a final chance at revenge.

Terrific as always. Frederick Davidson is an acquired narration taste, but getting this far in the series, it's splendid

This is another side quest entry, but it's a fun one. The first half is almost like a mystery novel and the action in the second is classic Sharpe.

Fun side quest

I love these stories, but I hate the way the reader speaks for the female characters. they are sl just a bit drippy and insidious

great story improve speaking voice of women

Cornwell brings us on an adventure through the politics of London which our hero is ill equipped to battle. Might not be the battles and gore or most of the series, but Sharpe die-hards will love it.

Another adventure!
