A naked woman in red, high-heeled shoes is poised on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge with her back pressed to the safety fence, weeping into a mobile phone. Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers "You don't understand" ¿ and jumps.

Later, Joe has a visitor ¿ the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge; not only would she not commit suicide, she is also afraid of heights. Joe wants to believe her, for how could a woman be driven to such a desperate act? And who might drive her to it? A terrifying psychological thriller, Shatter delves into the darkest recesses of the human mind.

This is a audiobook where most of the characters are so humble, you want them to be given the best outcomes considering the circumstances around them, but after awhile, you stop hoping this, and instead are just grateful everyone isn't dead or nearly so by the plot's end.

Well read, however - and in audiobooks, notwithstanding, that's pretty much the key to a good listen.

a dark plot-line but - hey! read very well.

Would you listen to Shatter again? Why?

Hmmm not for a long while... I love the buzz that the anticipation gives me and now that I know where the plot takes me.. well I will read another of his novels and go for another ride.

What did you like best about this story?

Great and gripping plot.

What does Tim Pigott-Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Somehow he fleshes the characters out.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Indeed!

Any additional comments?

Once again a great ride and terrific entertainment that takes me away from the academic literature which I need to read.

Oh My Goodness what a ride
