It’s been a while since I’ve read/listened to a book by Lori Foster and it will be a while before I do again. Although this storyline was good the book was extremely slow moving with tons of details that where a was of time. Too much in my opinion. The story about the kitten was longer than the villain. Sorry to say but, I’d pass.

2.5⭐ Jack & Ronnie: triggers- infidelity, child abuse (verbal), kidnapping, stalking, drugs, violence. I have to say that I've been very disappointed in the books I've read by Lori Foster. I first discovered her with the "men who walk in the edge of honor" series and then went straight to the "ultimate" series and then the "love undercover" series and I absolutely LOVED those books. But since then, I have yet to find another book or series by LF that is even close to being as intriguing, exciting, and sexy as these. So the others have just been kind of blah.. good but not really holding my attention. This book was pretty much the same. Definitely a slow burn and didn't really get interesting until the last couple of hours. For this audiobook to be 9 hours, that's 7 hours that I really had to fight not to dnf this book. It's a multiple POV and I think to break up the monotone of the narrator (who I can tell you, could not change his voice for the different characters so it's the same tone and speed all 9 hours), there should be dual narrators. The characters were just a thorn in my side. Ronnie was so annoying, and a total b*** to Jack, just for no reason. She was rude for 90% of the book. Jack was moreso a pushover because he allowed her to treat him that way and that just wasn't sexy at all. I did like Ronnie's backstory and the mystery that comes back to cause a rift. However the whole job of picking up weird items for a equally weird employer and needing a driver was very much a repetition of the previous book almost completely. Not sure I'm going to finish this series.

The series features hunky protective guys and skittish, prickly and petite gals who get together amid a little mystery and adventure. There’s occasional F bombs and described, but not overly crass, naughty parts. This book features Ronnie and Jack (brother to book 1’s Brodie). Books 1 & 2 follow such similar playbooks, I feel like I should have just picked one and listened to it twice. But, this was still decent for a sale purchase.

The thriller:
Ronnie isn’t so much an Indiana Jones artifact hunter as she’s a not very credible street rat who helps two recluses obtain weird tchotchkes for their creepy true-crime collection. Any danger elements and action sequences are clunky, with Ronnie repeatedly, obliviously walking into ambushes and an even more TSTL bad guy who couldn’t plan his way out of a paper bag.

The romance:
The relationship is unbalanced, with Jack being the controlled, sensible rock and Ronnie being the hard case with tons of baggage. Ronnie’s got issues with trust, intimacy, and body positivity. She’s got family and crime survivor drama. The romance side of this is Jack constantly working to win her over and her constantly insecure and closed off. Ronnie was just too damaged to be likable. Thus, for me this was more angsty and sweet than feisty or sexy, which contributed to the 2-3 good, but not hawt, scenes.

The parts that worked best for me:
I like narrator Lane for his deliciously deep male voices and his decent female voices. I also like the general concept of “action & amore,” although I found the fun, fire, and frisky to be on the average end for all three books. I enjoyed when the cast from book 1 interact and banter with Ronnie and Jack. Even though cliche, the inclusion of animals and the whole “bonding while saving the kitten from harm” schtick was sweet.
