Initially (even though you know the outcome), I couldn't listen for long periods (I found myself scared along with the characters. . .but as the book went along, I could not put it down. I loved the girl's reading and their fear, concern, and love resonated throughout the book. I great summer read!

This story takes you from the depths of despair, to hope, and finally to a happy outcome. ( I'm sure everyone who reads this knows there was a happy outcome) It tells the story of Laura's imprisonment from her and Lisa's perspective. Both sisters are to be greatly admired for enduring all that they did. Their deep love and commitment to each other surpassed their ordeal.

Like many people, I didn't know the full story of what happened to Laura to begin with. It's sad that people might be critical of what she did. However, we all make mistakes for which we regret greatly. She did what many of us do, and that is trust the wrong person. We all get focused on one thing and let our guard down.

I appreciate how from each of them they showed gratefulness toward the people in their lives who supported and helped them in different ways throughout this horrendous experience.

The book is well written and they do a fantastic job of narrating. I highly recommend it!

I have been a fan of Lisa’s since seeing her bright face daily while attending high school. Her story tugged at every heart string I have. I lost my only sibling and relate first hand the forever bond that will never end! I hope to continue to learn more and help more. This is truly a once in a lifetime story! Thank you all.

I got to meet Lisa Ling at a lecture she gave at my university. It was heartwrenching to hear her side of the story and the things she went through. I'm glad now to hear Laura's as well. Both of their voices truly convey what they were feeling and it almost seems like having a conversation with them. I think this is a novel that everyone should listen to especially in this time where North Korea is still an enigma. If we ever want a change in North Kora and our international relations we must understand their country with an open mind. In the epilogue, Laura puts it well when she says how can we change something we know nothing about?

So, please read this. Keep and open mind and just listen.
