This book gives a collection of short stories that make you wish, dream, and fear for the possibilities of scientific advancement. The narrator breathed life into every word with solid pacing and voices that were distinct without being caricatures. She has a style that draws you in and makes pausing difficult, while simultaneously being soothing and consistent enough to relax and enjoy. Gray's World and Return to Gray's World were my favorite, both in "first contact" with a world and its nearly dismissive avoidance of conquest.

This isn’t normally my genre of reading, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this collection. Every story was succinct and to the point, but didn’t lack the detail required to inform the reader of what was going on. I especially enjoyed how the author described the setting of the stories, giving me a good picture of where these things were happening. The narrator showed an affinity for each story, especially A Day in Court, which I listened to four times! She showed such depth in the performance of Rhonda, and the author was making such a convincing case, that it made me feel like I was there with her and feeling the injustice of the situation in my heart. The narrator performed that character with such depth and strength that it was obvious that Rhonda was going to fight the judge with everything she had. Rhonda wasn’t the only character that the narrator performed well; every character had their own distinct voice that I never confused with another, and she really injected emotion into each character that could be felt. She portrayed both strength and tenderness as required for the characters.
