From the author of Planetside, a Best Book of 2018 (Library Journal)

A military legend is caught in the web between alien intrigue and human subterfuge…

Following his mission on Cappa, Colonel Carl Butler returns to a mixed reception. To some he is a do-or-die war hero. To the other half of the galaxy he’s a pariah. Forced into retirement, he has resettled on Talca Four where he’s now Deputy VP of Corporate Security, protecting a high-tech military company on the corporate battlefield—at least, that’s what the job description says. Really, he’s just there to impress clients and investors. It’s all relatively low risk—until he’s entrusted with new orders. A breach of a competitor’s computer network has Butler’s superiors feeling every bit as vulnerable. They need Butler to find who did it, how, and why no one’s taken credit for the ingenious attack.

As accustomed as Butler is to the reality of wargames—virtual and otherwise—this one screams something louder than a simple hack. Because no sooner does he start digging when his first contact is murdered, the death somehow kept secret from the media. As a prime suspect, he can’t shake the sensation he’s being watched…or finally succumbing to the stress of his past. Paranoid delusion or dangerous reality, Butler might be onto something much deeper than anyone imagined. But that’s where Butler thrives.

If he hasn’t signed his own death warrant.

Was really looking forward to three follow up to his first novel and he didn't disappoint. Wonderful dialogue, plot, and overall writing style. I have no idea if this series is mainstream our not but it will be. Still shocked this is only the second book by the author, it reads like he's been doing this his whole life. doesn't matter if you like the sci-fi genre or not, this is a great series for any reader. looking forward to the next installment!

Fantastic follow up.

The story is interesting and the writing is good. Unlike other military sci-fi books the man character doesn't leap over tall buildings with a singe jump, but is a man, and like any man can be outsmarted, out maneuvered, and tricked...very refreshing. I can't wait for more books from this author. R.C. bray does a great job with this book. A definite must read for fans of more sophisticated sci-fi.

a good book, very good..

As always... an excellent performance from RC Bray. The story is good science fiction, but really focuses on a drama in a futuristic setting. A little light on actual science fiction and more heavily focused on criminal investigation and human nature.

Good book! Great performance!

Mammay does a fantastic job telling this story. He writes Col. Butler as a human with human emotions, yet as someone willing to do the hard things. He's not a superhero but works hard to try and do the right thing.

Of course, R.C. Bray is R.C. Bray...fantastic.

Being an avid reader/listener of Sci-fi, it's always a joy when a writer can paint the image of the characters into a storyline that both captivates and excites the reader/listener. This story endears you to the main character right from the beginning. The writer takes the time to build each characters personality and quirks without burdening you with too many details yet leaves you with someone you can picture in your minds eye.

This books story could be a standalone book or the beginning of a great series. Needless to say, R C Bray, performs the reading of this great story in his usual captivating fashion. He naturally brings to life each character for the listener, without fail. This writer/performer combo is always a success.
