Spiderlight is an exhilarating fantasy quest from Adrian Tchaikovsky, the author of Children of Time, Guns at Dawn and the Shadows of the Apt series.
The Church of Armes of the Light has battled the forces of Darkness for as long as anyone can remember. The great prophecy has foretold that a band of misfits, led by a high priestess will defeat the Dark Lord Darvezian, armed with their wits, the blessing of the Light and an artifact stolen from the merciless Spider Queen.
Their journey will be long, hard and fraught with danger. Allies will become enemies; enemies will become allies. And the Dark Lord will be waiting, always waiting . . .
Praise for Spiderlight
‘A joy from beginning to end." — Paul Cornell, author of Witches of Lychford and The Severed Streets
‘Sympathetic characters, real moral dilemmas, and emotional depth, all shot through with a sly humor that kept me grinning throughout’ — Django Wexler, author of How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying
Critic reviews
I don’t know how Adrian Tchaikovsky manages to be so prolific while maintaining such a high standard of quality across his works. A master of the craft, Adrian manages to fit more ideas into this relatively short tale than many authors fit into entire series, all while delivering a highly entertaining storyline.
The characters are excellently realised, the pacing is great and like all of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s books, real-world social issues are presented naturally and interrogated with a kind of brilliance that I’ve rarely encountered elsewhere. The classic tale of good versus evil portrayed in the novel is anything but black and white, nor are any of the myriad dynamics in the book.
I only realised after I’d finished listening that the author is also the narrator. I don’t know how someone who isn’t primarily a voice actor manages to deliver such a good performance as he has here. Each character is excellently voiced, with emotive and humorous dialogue being delivered effortlessly.
This is a book that can be enjoyed by existing fans and newcomers alike. If you enjoy fantasy, this one’s for you.
An outstanding story and listen
