From Jennifer L. Armentrout, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Primal of Blood and Bone, comes the beginning of a heartstopping romantic fantasy series about angels, demons and gargoyles where a girl with an explosive secret hiding place has just been discovered. Narrated by Lauren Fortgang.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her gift is the reason she’s been in hiding for years in a compound guarded by Wardens—shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her to enhance their powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with reports that something is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to trust Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

This book has great reviews and I don’t want to detract from that, but this is not what I had expected after listening to Blood & Ash and Flesh & Fire. The characters are young in maturity. They reference the Fresh Prince, Chupacabras (multiple times), and the despite seeming to be written for a young audience has many references to the 80s. Based in the US - West Virginia & DC. All modern day with magic and demons. The lead is insecure and seems to kiss any male that shows her attention. I’m almost done this book and will not be moving along in the series. I’ve loved JAs other work but this threw me for a loop as none of the reviews prepared me for the change up in worlds, maturity, and odd (to me) humor.

I never once thought or had any premonition the book would be bad - it’s literally the opposite, so perhaps “surprise” isn’t the best word, but everything about the book & narration was awesome. I’m glad I gave the book a go. Peanut may not be one of the main characters, but he will ALWAYS be my #1 fave character in this series (if for no other reason than his Star Wars comment ;) )

Peanut Is The BEST

It was very good. But I had to get through the first few chapters until it picked up.

Starts a little slow.

Some good humor spots. Female character funny and not weak and whinny. Not to much romance, could have hoped for a bit more. Just found this author so will try another book. Really liked the narrator too.

Good listen
