Andrew was a 30-year-old engineer living his best life until millions of alien orbs fell from orbit and altered reality itself.
Three years later, they activated a system that turns existence into an unforgiving trial. Power comes from combat, adaptation, and staying ahead of a world that no longer tolerates weakness.
With no way out, Andrew must learn the rules while the rules are trying to break him. Guided by advanced artificial intelligence, a small group of allies, and a mysterious, dilapidated alien spaceship, he faces the same demand as everyone else.
Get stronger.
But strength alone will not save Earth. Conflict is spreading across the galaxy, and rebellion threatens to drag humanity into a much larger war. Even if Andrew wins every fight, failure on a greater scale could still mean extinction.
To save his world, he will have to grow beyond anything he ever planned to be.

The ship is my absolute favorite, and the narrator does such a great job with this voice. Same with the best friend, CJ.
There are moments that really had me laughing so hard that I had tears, and some heavy emotional moments. This seems to be the authors first work and I can’t want to see where he goes from here.
Heavy handed backstory, amazing progression

The world-building is phenomenal. It doesn’t just tell you how the system works—it immerses you in it. Every level gained, every stat increase, every hard-fought battle feels earned and meaningful. The mechanics are tight, clever, and never overwhelming, striking that perfect balance between game logic and narrative flow.
And the protagonist? Gritty, resourceful, and refreshingly human. Watching them adapt, struggle, and evolve in a brutal, ever-changing environment is deeply satisfying. There’s no cheap power fantasy here—every victory comes at a cost, which makes the progression all the more rewarding.
What really elevates Survivor’s Descent above the pack is its tension and pacing. The stakes are relentless. Just when you think you’ve caught your breath, the story throws you into another high-risk scenario that forces both the character and the reader to think fast. It’s intense in the best possible way.
The writing itself is sharp and cinematic. Action scenes are vivid without being cluttered, and quieter moments land with surprising emotional weight. There’s a real sense that the author understands not just the mechanics of LitRPG, but the heart of storytelling.
In short: this book is addictive. It’s the kind of read where “just one more chapter” turns into staying up way too late—and loving every second of it.
If you’re looking for a high-stakes, intelligently crafted, and wildly entertaining sci-fi LitRPG, Survivor’s Descent absolutely delivers.

I love all tge different mechanisms and moving pieces behind the action. The characters are fun and engaging and easy to both love or hate.
The performance of the audible definitely knocked it out of the park. But how can you not love Jonathan McClian.
I look forward to continuing the series.
