My house has been such a mess these past few days! It feels like everything is chaos all of the time! I’ve been needing a system now for the longest time to get things clean and keep them that way and I’m glad I came across this book.

The authors hammers the overly generalized American culture, design styles, and presumed reason for same, and constantly describes the Swedish way as superior in every way. There’s no new information in the book. And it takes the author forever to get to even simple points rather than providing real valuable information. There’s nothing new and it takes the author forever to say it and she does so it’s such distain that I couldn’t stand, listening to it any longer.

I have been following Swedish death cleaning for a while now as an alternative to regular home decluttering because the traditional approach didn’t fit my way of thinking about possessions. The usual method speaks of things in a detached way, as if they were only objects taking up space. But I see my belongings more as memorabilia, so I can’t just get rid of them without reflection.

This method is perfect for me because it feels like a meditation, a moment of introspection where I can rediscover who I am and decide whether an object truly defines me or if I’m simply attached to it, and whether letting it go would be good for me.

This audiobook covers most home areas and object types, such as documents, clothes, and more. The method is somewhat tailored to the American way of living, so it differs from traditional Swedish decluttering, but it is also very useful.
