Chana (pronounced Ha-na) is a carefree 12-year-old from New Jersey about to embark on what she imagines to be “the Trip of a Lifetime” to Israel. But after being dragged all over the country, Chana is bored and unimpressed, until she falls through a doorway at an archaeological site and ends up in the middle of a battlefield in 1st century BCE Judea.

Bewildered by this strange new world, Chana soon meets a strong-minded teen girl named Miriam and her friend Herod, the figures who will one day grow up to be known in history books as Queen Mariamne and King Herod the Great. Chana soon finds herself thrust into ancient life and, along with her new friends, accidentally finds herself a key figure in the middle of an epic civil war.

The hardships of ancient life prove both terrifying and exciting, as Chana narrowly escapes death by falling off the cliff in an attempt to save Miriam and endures a harrowing sailing trip from Judea to Rome to enlist the help of Julius Caesar to help her friends win the civil war.
