Artemis is at boarding school in Ireland when he receives an urgent e-mail from Russia. In it is a plea from a man who has been kidnapped by the Russian Mafia: his father. As Artemis rushes to his rescue, he is stopped by a familiar nemesis, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police. But this time, instead of battling the fairies, he is going to have to join forces with them if he wants to save one of the few people in the world he loves.©2002 Eoin Colfer; (P)2004 Random House, Inc., Listening Library, an imprint of the Random House Audio Publishing Group Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths Family Life Growing Up & Facts of Life Literature & Fiction Mysteries Mystery & Suspense Science Fiction & Fantasy Action & Adventure Fantasy & Magic Funny

As a big fan of Terry Pratchett, my wife introduced me to the Artemis Fowl series. It doesn't disappoint--just the right blend of humor, fantasy, even sci-fi (faerie tech). All my favorite genres for fiction. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Also, Nathaniel Parker does a bang up job with the reading--great with accents and voices. I'd bet he can give Jim Dale a run for his money.

Will Artemis find his father? Will his heart remember how to do more than beat? Will his gucci loafers survive? The answer this and many more questions can be had with the 2nd (and best in my opinion) in the Atemis Fowl series. This exciting story of warmth, love and family is wrapped in package of faires, snow, radiation and a spoiled genius. The descriptions and details of the fairy world are great - and Artemis - as always - is sassy as ever.

My favorite Artemis Fowl
