Retired US detective Emil Janowitz has lied to his wife for more than forty years. Losing his entire family as an inmate of Auschwitz Concentration Camp he found it easier than facing the demons buried deep inside.

A letter from an unknown Aleksy Markowski sends him off on a journey, to hunt down and denounce vicious Kapos who were supposedly gassed in the last days before liberation. The truth, they fled justice and still live and flourish and must be brought to justice. Emil’s journey triggers memories he's long locked away and his journey opens him up to a life he'd put in the past. Life is a journey, history should not be forgotten, the evil still exists.

History should never be forgotten about whilst the evil still exists.

I thought this was a strong & emotional listen. The plot about a survivor revisiting the past to seek justice was compelling & it kept my attention. The story balances personal memories with a sense of purpose. Matt Haynes did a solid job with the narration & his performance helped maintain the serious tone of the story.

The Auschwitz Protocol by Jack Carnegie pulled me in from the beginning. WWII history encompasses so many facets. This book focused on one that left me feeling there was some karma served to those abuses. Matt Haynes was great performing the book. I know this story was fiction, but would like to hope that it was based on some real events.

Karma!

I’m always drawn to WWII stories—the heroism, the politics, and the human cost. The Holocaust side of that history is especially heavy, and The Auschwitz Protocol leans into that emotional weight.

It follows a survivor hunting down former Kapos, blending fiction with real people and places in a way that feels strikingly real. A tough but compelling listen, elevated by strong narration.

Overall 3.5/5

This book is an emotional journey of two men who both survived the horrors of Auscwitz, but dealt with the aftermath in two very different ways. To hear to the story of Aushcwiz in such a different context was truly amazing and I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the books in the series.
