When Elise Friedman’s mother died suddenly on Elise’s eighth birthday, any hope of unlocking her mysterious past died with her. Raised by her adoptive father, Elise has spent years trying to learn the truth about her mother, Catrina, and the life Catrina left behind when she emigrated to America.

Now a young woman in college, Elise travels to her mother’s homeland of Germany to unearth the truth. Accompanied by her mother’s close friend, Addison, and a cocky young globe-trotter she meets in Berlin, Elise is finally getting close to the truth — and to the same evil that once ensnared her mother.

This was uncomfortable to listen to; to me, verging on a horror story. However, people around the world are experiencing this very situation. I'm glad I finished it, and recommend it as a good listen.

Gripping

This was an amazing story. Some parts were hard to listen to, but it was an intriguing story.
I did think Elise was a little naive at times.

Intriguing and a Strong storyline

I have read many books by Melanie Dobson and enjoyed them. However, this book is rather unbelievable.
The plot is about Cults and Human Trafficking The main character is stupid and naive and the sequence
of events garbled. The abuse by the cult leader cringe worthy. This is clearly one of her early writings.
It shows in the plot and the believability of the story Skip this one and listen to one of her others like
"Catching the Wind", "Memories of Glass" or Hidden Among the Stars" instead.
The Narration was Pretty Good.

After reading another of Melanie Dobson’s story and living it, this was a huge dark hole of a story. I’ll hesitate now before purchasing another, and read synopsis carefully
