Two brothers face the end of all they know as the Earth is absorbed into something called War World. On Earth, they were up-and-coming duo competitors in ACS (Armored Combat Sports), and it is with those skills they just might survive.

A LitRPG Grimdark novel.

My flesh knew what to do as I spun again, pushing off his huge body to set myself a few steps past his now exposed back, planting feet, arresting momentum—only to jack its kinetic energy into legs pushing off stone, axe lowered, behind me, coming forward in sync with my body, taut muscles exploding as the axe came over my shoulder, pistoning into the top of his head, planting a heraldic flag to the f--k yous of history.

The Bones of our Fathers, book one in the series Blood Brothers

Come on, Dozer; let’s see what you and Daddy can do.

I pulsed what I wanted over the bond. The floodgates opened. He scraped his hoof, in imitation of Taurean improvosu, head lowered, billows of repressed loss from snorting snout, and he was off, a locomotive with only one destination and one purpose: carnage. I stepped a breath from his shadow, dialed in 1-800-Die F--kers Die.

This is a Litrpg book and I really enjoyed this book. Spoilers ahead. It’s about two brothers and a mother who gets sucked into a tutorial with their pet pig lol and have to survive to go back to the world after it got changed through the system.
This book really got me because I recently lost my mom to cancer and the boys lose their mom as well. I really felt the pain that they felt through the near ration. Patrick O’Connor is an OK narrator. I wouldn’t say he’s one of the best but I would definitely say he wasn’t one of the worst narrator’s other listen to. This was my first book married to buy him and I’ll definitely listen to another one of the new recent again. And I really enjoyed this authors book I cannot wait to the second one comes out.

A well told story of a family of fighters as the world is forced into a battle game. Very different from others I have read and that just makes it better.
Narration was decent though I did notice a few rough spots like pauses in the middle of a sentence or the music cutting in or out at weird places.
Overall a good listen and I am ready for book two.

Whenever there is a fight, the music comes in. It would be ok, but it was so loud that I had a hard time hearing the narration. It turned the book into story, battle of music that wins over voice, and then summary of fight or stat review.

Second thing that stuck out was that it is a very short book.

Good story but distracting music.

The music was a cool idea, except on my phone speaker it was way too loud and completely overshadowed the reader. It was very jarring and would pull me out of the book. And the pet pig was the only thing that kept me listening for as long as I did, but the cringe was heavier than the music. Maybe I just can’t empathize with the two brothers, because I’ve never had such a strong familial bond or emotions, but it all seemed a little over the top. The plot itself is very cool and even though I won’t be able to finish the book because of the cringe, I’m still interested in what will happen.

Interesting Idea for sure
