What if you fell in love with the one person you’d sworn to destroy?

Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees. A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise. The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara’s homeland. So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom.

But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides. Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people. As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore. Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?

The beginning of an epic romance

It’s been a few months now since I listened to The Bridge Kingdom, but I’m still thinking about how much I enjoyed it. I’ll occasionally go back and look at all the positive reviews and feel proud of this little gem for doing so well since it’s come out. It’s a really fun romantic fantasy, exactly my cup of tea, with a clever plot and engaging characters that kept me tuned in. I loved that the heroine had to pretend to be meek but was actually an assassin—we get to keep this little secret in our back pocket until wham! Lara plays her hand just right. And it’s the beginning of a series so we are going to be getting more of Lara and Aren soon! If you like a fast-paced romantic fantasy with a kickass heroine and a slow burn relationship, I recommend you pick this one up. —Melissa B., Audible Editor

Editorial Review

This book will trigger fellow fantasy romance lovers

While I was in the midst of this book, every hour of my day that I was not listening felt like a wasted hour. Needless to say, I finished it pretty quickly. I will admit that in the beginning I hated our main character, Lara, because I thought she had done a terrible, terrible deed that I could not forgive her for. But when I found out how wrong I was, I loved Lara more fiercely than I had hated her. Narrators Lauren Fortgang and James Patrick Cronin were absolutely perfectly cast. Their performances elicited strong emotions in me, and I devoured the drama, romance, and knife-edged tension faster than I thought possible. It was completely delicious! —Melissa B., Audible Editor

I actually had to take a break when the story started to reach its climax because it was so thrilling I couldn’t handle my anxiety over the characters! Thrilling and well crafted; I can’t wait for the next book! (But this is NOT “teen” reading.)

Only negatives: The obnoxious thunder and rain sound effects between chapters are just annoying and distracting. And one of the minor male character’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard - luckily not frequently heard - he’s somehow both low and high pitched at the same time.

I loved it. I was in the middle of something when it ended and I immediately went to download the next book because it left you hanging. Write Danielle, write, I want to know what twist and turns you will put in the paths of the hero’s.
Thanks for a fun fast paced book.

I really enjoyed this book. I was captured from the very first chapter; however, there were moments that were so painfully predictable as an outsider looking in, and so frustrating that the main characters would take two steps together to go miles backwards. This novel didn’t do the standard, see each other, fall passionately in love, and then face a dangerous moment, realize they love each other, and live happily ever after... this novel threw you into a world at war, into a nations distrusting any outsiders, to a king who wants to do the right thing, a father of evil sorts, a heroine who must overcome condition prejudice and hatred, edge of your seat situations at every turn, to finally get a small moment of alliance and romance to be torn apart and angry at the turn of events. Jensen does a great job of world building, character building, and leaving the reader ready for the second installment of this series. I really do hope for sailing off into the sunset for Laura and her King in the next book.
